Whistler in the Summer

We have been so lucky this summer to take not one, but two beautiful get-aways.  In July, we went to Orcas Island for a night and this month, we got to go to Whistler, BC for three days.  We were there in April for my spring break and the last of the ski season.  It is amazing how much everything changed in four months.  Everything was green and blooming on the mountains, with just a little bit of snow lingering at the very tops.  We took the gondola to the top and followed a little trail down to Harmony Lake.  Then we took the Peak to Peak gondola across to Blackcomb and took the lift down.  It was breathtaking!  I loved riding the lift with no bulky ski gear and warm sunshine and wildflowers all around.  So pretty.

We went up to Pemberton for a trail ride.  We loved our horses, Babe and Honey!  It was such a hot day, so the best part of the ride was taking the horses through the river where they could get a cool drink and wade up to their bellies.  Our feet got wet, but it felt so nice!  The only downside is that we got eaten alive by mosquitos.

"Babe"
"Honey"

We love Whistler!  It was nice to walk around the village and eat at some great restaurants (Village Sushi is our favorite!) And of course, our tradition is getting a candy apple from the chocolate shop to share.  Yum.  It was so nice to spend time together and enjoy beautiful Whistler.

Four Years

I love this day!  It's our anniversary.  Four years ago I was getting ready to walk down the aisle to marry this sexy hunk:
Matt, I love you!  Our life together has been the best adventure so far and I can't wait to see what the future holds.  I'm so glad I have you by my side!

Orcas Island

It's summer!  I'm blogging again :)  This week Matt and I got to take a little mini-vacation to the San Juan Islands.  We really are lucky to live so close to such an amazing place.  We took the ferry to Orcas Island and stayed at the Rosario.  It was beautiful.  Such a fun trip!  We only stayed one night, but it was relaxing and so much fun.  I hope we get to go back soon!

Mt. Constitution in Moran State Park.  Erika - you were right, it is amazing!

Coming home - wish it were longer!

Sweet 1st Graders

I love my new class. They are such a sweet, bright group of first graders and they really do make my job rewarding and fun. However, I could not be happier to have a break these next 2 weeks. Yay for Winter break!

We had a little holiday party in our class to celebrate the last day of school before break. It was crazy and fun. The kids decorated cookies, had cocoa and stories, and made some crafts that they could give to their families. The best part is that the parents helped me plan the whole party and provided everything for it. I am so lucky!

Here I am with my sweet students. Can you see the effects of all the sugar? They were also very excited to give me my presents.

To brighten your day

I have always loved this song and this is such a fun version of it! Please notice the guy in the back playing a tree.

A note about this song - when I was little, I thought the lyrics were:

"making lunch in the afternoon with Cecilia, up in my bedroom."

Only now do I realize that those aren't the words.

Enjoy!

New Bathroom!

Our new bathroom is finally done! We love it and are so happy with the way it turned out. I never thought I would be so excited about a bathroom, but it really is nice and I love getting ready in our new bathroom every morning. I guess it's the little things in life...

I'm reposting some of the old bathroom photos for a good side-by-side comparison. It is so fun and rewarding to see the before and after!

Here is the old vanity:

Most of the work in the bathroom was done by these two, amazing men:
Overall, we were able to stick to our budget pretty well. When it came to the finishing details, we got lucky with our cabinet and mirror. We found the cabinet on sale at the cabinetry warehouse where we ordered our vanity. Matt painted it to match and we added matching knobs to go with the vanity.

Lucky find!
All fixed up:
A few weeks ago when our friends John and Jessie were in town, we mentioned that we were looking for a bathroom mirror. It turns out Jessie's brother has some mirrors that came from the waterfront Mariott when it was remodeled. He got a good deal on them, but told us that we could have this one for free. Can you believe it? We are so lucky! I ended up painting the gold trim black to match our countertops and I love the result. That was my biggest contribution to the bathroom!

We love our new bathroom and are so happy to have it finished!
